Project DAWN hopes to help widowed women from vulnerable communities in India find a new lease of life. Our mission is to provide these women with support and empower them to achieve economic stability, enhance their lives, and gain independence by way of targeted interventions.
In this vein, we aim to develop an extensive open-access database of companies in India that have elder-inclusive hiring policies. A large section of India’s widow population is elderly, and through this public-resource database, we hope to provide them with information and access to workplaces open to hiring older women, in order for them to create financial stability for themselves. Project DAWN also seeks to organize a series of expert-led workshops to upskill women in skills such as weaving and embroidery to increase their employability. Further, we aim to establish a self-help group to provide financial assistance to widows, on basic issues such as emergency short-term monetary assistance, loans, and more. Through this, we hope to provide these women with a safe space where they can share their problems and receive financial and emotional support. We also plan to organize a fundraising campaign to finance these operations. Project DAWN is thus committed to its vision of a world where women enjoy dignity and have complete agency over their lives, and where widowed women are harmoniously integrated into the socio-economic fabric of our country.
